| Born Ernest Harold Conwell in Renton, Wa....earned letters in football, track, wrestling, and basketball at Kentwood High in Kent, Wa...all-South Puget Sound League choice as tight end and defensive end as senior...won state Class AAA shot put title as junior and senior...youngest of nine children (five brothers, three sisters)...sister, Pauline, competed in 1972 USA Olympic Trials in shot put...family competes on Washington stock car circuit as Conwell Race Team…is currently continuing his education at Fontbonne College, in the area of education...married (Andrea)...couple has three children, daughters Devon and Grace, and son Andrew...resides in Chesterfield, Mo.
Prototype H tight end…very versatile…strong blocker at the point of attack…good finisher…deceptive speed…good running ability after the catch…endured extensive rehabilitation after tearing ACL, MCL, and PCL in right knee midway through the 1998 season to return to the field during the second half of the 1999 season…returned as Rams’ starting tight end in 2001...Rams’ second selection in second round (59th overall) in 1996 NFL Draft. 2001: Played in 16 games with 13 starts and saw action in three postseason contests with two starts…tied career highs with 38 catches and four touchdown receptions while establishing career-highs with 431 receiving yards and a long of 47…caught five passes for 41 yards (both career highs) in postseason…caught five passes for 49 yards and one touchdown in season opener at Philadelphia 9/9, with the single game totals eclipsing 2000 season totals (5-40-0)…caught four passes for 22 yards with a one-yard touchdown reception at Detroit 10/8…made a career-high six receptions for 44 yards, also rushing one time for a two-yard touchdown, his first career rushing touchdown, vs. New Orleans 10/28…made 100th career reception on a five-yard catch in the third quarter against San Francisco 12/9…caught three passes for 25 yards with one touchdown, a four-yard reception at Carolina 12/23…caught five passes for a career-high-tying 75 yards with a career-long 47-yard reception, and one touchdown vs. Atlanta 1/6…caught three passes for 33 yards with a long of 19 in the NFC Championship Game vs. Philadelphia 1/27…caught two passes for eight yards in Super Bowl XXXVI against New England 2/3. 2000: Played in 16 games with one start…completed season with five receptions for 40 yards and rushed two times for 23 yards (11.5 avg.)…made first reception of season for two yards at Husky Stadium, where he played college football against Seattle 9/10…made first NFL carry for 17 yards on reverse at San Francisco 10/29…established season highs in receptions (two) and receiving yards (18) following week vs. Carolina 11/5…made only start of season at New York Giants 11/12 as Rams opened up in two tight end set…collected one reception for 12 yards vs. Washington 11/20. 1999: Played in three regular season games and three playoff games after recovering from knee injury...caught one pass for 11 yards...spent first eight weeks on physically unable to perform list (PUP)...lone reception came against Philadelphia 1/2 in third quarter...caught three passes for 22 yards in postseason, catching one pass in each game...his 16-yard reception in third quarter led to Rams’ first touchdown of Super Bowl XXXIV, a nine-yard scoring pass from QB Kurt Warner to WR Torry Holt vs Tennessee 1/30. 1998: Started first seven games of season before tearing ACL, PCL, and MCL in right knee in Week 8 vs. |
