Seattle Storm (2002): The No. 1 overall pick in the 2002 Draft, Bird had a dynamic rookie season, leading the WNBA in free-throw percentage (.911), finished second in assists (6.0) and was voted a starting berth to the Western Division All-Star Team. She had a career-high 33 points as the Storm clinched the first playoff berth in their history with a victory over Portland. Bird finished second to Tamika Catchings in the balloting for Rookie of the Year honors.
Connecticut Huskies (1998-2002): A member of two NCAA Division I championship teams (2000 and 2002), Bird was a two-time All-American, 2002 Wade Trophy recipient, 2002 Associated Press and Naismith Player of the Year and winner of the 2002 Honda Award for Women’s Basketball. She also was the recipient of the first annual Senior CLASS Award, presented to the nation’s most outstanding senior basketball player, and a three-time Conseco/Nancy Lieberman-Cline National Point Guard of the Year Award winner.
