| As a senior, collected 105 tackles, eight sacks, two fumble recoveries (one for a touchdown) and one blocked punt ... Named an All-American by PrepStar ... Ranked 27th nationally among defensive tackles by Scout.com ... Named the No. 41 prospect on Scout.com's West Hot 100 ... Named second team All-Metro, and one of the top-15 area prospects, by the Sacramento Bee ... As a junior, recorded 81 tackles, including 14 for-loss, six sacks, a fumble recovery and a blocked punt... a 2004 First-Team All-Delta league honoree.
Matthews: "I am quick and strong. I can anticipate what my opponent is going to do before he does it. I'm quick and hustle hard. I move well for my size. I recover good and I can catch people off guard," said Matthews. "I want to work on my technique and have more moves besides the swim and rip. I also need to improve my hand placement."
Laguna coach Lewis Lassetter: "He's very versatile and he's athletic... When you look at him, he has the arm span of a 747."
