2005: After having a very inconsistent 03', D.J. really stepped up and became one of the better punters in the nation in 04'. He's got above average leg strength and rarely out kicks the coverage. Fitzpatrick has good range as a field goal kicker. He's consistent from 40 yards out and can hit from beyond 50 yards. He has missed a few shorter field goals, so he will need to improve on that. The kicking game will be a strength for Notre Dame this season. 2004: Fitzpatrick earned a scholarship after walking on the previous three years. D.J. had an outstanding year and far exceeded many fan's expectations. He was ranked #25 nationally in net punting and had a remarkable 29 punts downed inside the 20-yard line. His 76 punts during the season rank as the 2nd most for a season in school history (B. Kiel #1 with 77 in 1982). He had a solid year kicking the ball, hitting 73.3% of his field goals. 2003: As a walk-on, DJ began the year as the #2 punter and kicker...When N. Setta was injured during the Pitt game he took over both duties. He struggled with his punting, but by the end of the year he became very dependable field goal kicker. 2002: Walk-on. Saw his only action against Rutgers. 2001: Walk-on. Did not see action as a freshman kicker/punter in '01 High School: First-team all-state defensive back and punter his senior season.
