Biography:

How Acquired: Trade with the Bengals April 2004 for second-round pick (56th overall)

Scouting Report: Big physical bruising running style. Has an elusive quality running through holes with a burst. Tough to tackle, typically gaining additional yardage after first contact. Willing to run over defensive backs as often as running around them. Does not possess breakaway speed, but rarely gets caught from behind when breaking into the open field. Has a knack for finding the cutback lane, good vision and a strong stiff-arm technique which enables him to stay on his feet and keep smaller defenders at bay.

Pro Experience:

New England Patriots (2004-present)
Notched up a career year in 2004 and went to the playoffs for the first time in his career. Was named to the 2005 Pro Bowl after leading the NFL in average rushing yards per game. Set career highs for rushing yards in a single season (1,635), rushing touchdowns (12), first downs rushing (81). Was a key component to the teams success, and shattered the Patriots previous total rushing yards by a running back in 2003 (Antowain Smith, 642 yards). His first game as a starter, Dillon gained 158 yards rushing on 32 carries against the Arizona Cardinals.

Dillon agreed to take less money to play for the Patriots in 2004, which was part of the catalyst in the team trading for him. New England gave the Bengals their second-round pick (56th overall ) with which they selected Madieu Williams. Dillon's contract contained an incentive bonus which he reached in the final game of the season against the San Francisco 49ers, in spite of missing a game during the season and not starting until week 2.

Cincinnati Bengals (1997-2003)
Former owner of the top rushing game in NFL history, 278 yards vs. Denver in 2000, owner of the Bengals single season rushing record of 1,435 yards in 2000 before Rudi Johnson eclipsed that in 2004. Owned or shared 18 Bengal team records, including longest play from scrimmage (96-yard run), career rushing yards (8,061), rushing yards in a game (278), career yards from scrimmage (9,543), and most 1,000-yard seasons (6).
