New suitors for Husky commit
"USC and Cal both have told me they like me as a running back. They said I could be a big, physical back in their scheme and that they like the way I play the game.
"I'm camping at Cal in a few weeks and then I'll also go to USC's Skills Camp."
With all of this new interest from schools, the question has to be asked -- is he still a solid verbal to Washington?
"Oh yeah, I'm still committed and I'd say I'm solidly committed," Penny said. "I mean, when it all comes down, if I get an offer from USC or UCLA or Cal, it will be tough because my parents will be like 'you have a great school close by offering you', but in the end they know it's my decision and that I'll choose the best school for me and Washington is the school I wanted to go to and that's why I committed to them."
Penny said that he speaks weekly with the Husky assistant recruiting him -- Johnny Nansen.
"We speak at least once a week," Penny said. "He updates me on things and just makes sure I am getting things done in the classroom.
"I got a lot of mail from them during the spring and I followed the progress of their spring ball and got updates from coach Nansen a lot."
Penny had hoped to visit Washington during the spring, but said he's hoping to make it up over the summer in order to see the campus and meet face-to-face with the coaches.
"I'm friends with Jesse Callier from our days when we played against each other down here," Penny said. "I wouldn't say I know him really well, but I followed how he's done and he seems to really like it up there.
"I really want to see the campus and the facilities and really start bonding with the coaches and the players, so I'd like to get up there this summer, but I might not make it until I take an official visit during the season."
As a junior last fall, Penny had an outstanding season on both sides of the ball posting nearly 1,600 yards and 21 touchdowns on the ground as the Lancers' top offensive threat while also notching 44 tackles and eight sacks from his defensive end position.
Penny said he has already taken the SAT once and will retake it on June 5th.
