The San Diego Chargers, trading up with San Francisco, took Washington linebacker Donald Butler with the 79th pick in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft Friday in New York, and his teammate went seven picks later. Butler, a 6-foot-1, 245-pound inside 'backer from Sacramento, Calif., started 27 games for the Huskies in his career, and 42 overall.
As a senior he was named to the All-Pac-10 second team, leading UW in tackles with 94, 72 solo. He was also a team captain in 2009.
Washington
defensive end Daniel Te'o-Nesheim was expected to be picked on Saturday of this draft, but the Philadelphia Eagles had different ideas. In a
mock draft made at Fox Sports
, one that correctly picked Butler in the third round - has Te'o-Nesheim picked by the Seattle Seahawks in the fourth round, but the Eagles jumped up and grabbed the 6-foot-3.5, 263-pound defensive end from Waikoloa, Hawai'i with the No. 86 pick.
Te'o-Nesheim is Washington's all-time leader in sacks, with 30, setting the record in his final game against California in 2009, where he nabbed three. He started in all 49 games he played in at UW, amassing 194 total tackles and 47 tackles for loss. He was a two-time all-Pac-10 second team selection.
Butler and Te'o-Nesheim were the first UW players taken in the same round since 2007, when QB/ATH
Isaiah Stanback
was taken by Dallas with the 103rd pick and safety
Dashon Goldson
with the 126 pick to San Francisco. Both picks were made in the fourth round.
2007 also happens to be the last year any players from UW were drafted.
