Smith decides to become a Husky
"They were really excited. Coach Martin said he was so excited he felt like punching a wall and coach Sark said that every week they worked hard at improving and today their team just got better."
Smith, who had only played five games of organized football before the beginning of the season had a monster senior campaign, posting 70 receptions for over 1,500 yards and 16 touchdowns.
"My coaches and all of the college coaches I've talked to told me that they loved my upside because I haven't played a lot of football yet," Smith said. "I'm just real excited to be done so I can focus on basketball and then get ready to come in ready to go next summer."
Besides the offer from Washinton, Smith had full rides from Colorado, Arizona, Utah and Idaho and was getting heavy interest from UCLA and Tennessee, but he said the Huskies were the program he really believed in and he wanted to jump in the boat as soon as possible.
"Washington was always in my heart," Smith said. "They were on me early and they did a great job of selling their program to me and in the end it was just about where I could see myself for the next four years and that was Washington."
