2009 Barton Indoor Football Training
Please go to: http://www.bartontraining.com.
Click on the left border on “CAMPS” and then on “Oregon Camps” to learn more detailed
information about the Portland Indoor programs. If you want to attend the Indoor Seattle
Camps, then you would click on “Washington Camps”.
Taylor Barton, former quarterback at the University of Washington, will be running the Seattle Indoor
Camps that will be held in the beautiful indoor Dempsey Facility on Washington's campus.
Paul Arnold, one of Washington’s finest high school athletes ever, will assist Barton in Seattle. Coach Arnold was an
outstanding wide receiver at the University of Washington. Taylor has put
together an outstanding staff for the Seattle training that will begin on Saturday,
January 3. Seattle will offer a total of 16 workouts in the winter (12 Saturday’s
and 4 Sunday’s). Go to: http://www.bartontraining.com
for more information.
Greg Barton will be in charge of the Portland Indoor training that meets on
Sunday’s at Portland Community College (Sylvania campus). After a playing career that saw Barton
play in both the NFL, CFL and World Football League, he has been a fixture on the prep
coaching scene in the Northwest since the early 70's. He has coached youth sports for over 45 years,
and has organized and coached in camps and clinics for over 40 years. Barton has put together an
outstanding staff that players and parents will enjoy. In Oregon we will offer 11 days, all on Sundays. Please go to:
http://www.bartontraining.com to get more detailed information.
Portland will offer two camps for Quarterbacks and Skill Position Players (running
backs, slots, tight ends, wide receivers, linebackers and defensive backs). In
addition Portland will offer an excellent Offense-Defense Line Camp. These
camps are for grades 6 through college. Last, but certainly not least, is our
popular Youth Football Training for Kindergarten through 5th grade.
Seattle is excited to have another Offense-Defense Line Camp this winter. The
Line Camp was a huge success last winter. Our Quarterback–Skill Position
Players (running backs, slots, tight ends, wide receivers, linebackers and
defensive backs) will have plenty of space in the Dempsey Indoor Facility to
throw and catch the ball. Players in grade 5 through college are welcome.
Players can sign up for all days or as a “daily” player. Players from both Oregon
and Washington can register online at: http://www.bartontraining.com
This winter we will be expanding into Salem, Ore. We will have information
on the site soon. We will offer Quarterback–Skill Position Player training
(running backs, slots, tight ends, wide receivers, linebackers and defensive
backs). Chris Budke will be heading up the camps, assisted by Rodney Eudy.
Some Barton Football Academy Philosophies
The Barton Football Academy believes in teaching good basic fundamentals to
players of all ages and positions. Whether a player is in Youth Football, High
School Football, College Football or Professional Football, he will always be
working on proper fundamentals of the game.
Once you learn how to perform a skill, you must do this skill hundreds and hundreds
of times to achieve “muscle memory”. Our philosophy is to have fun, but to work very
hard, regardless of age or experience.
An example; a quarterback must learn a 3-step drop. Today, Payton Manning, one of
the great quarterbacks of all time, still is pushed hard every day by his quarterback coach
to be perfect in everyway while working 20 minutes in each practice on his 3-step drop.
The Colts' quarterback will join the NFL Hall of Fame someday and people will talk about
his work ethic being the reason for his greatness and success.
So every workout will teach skills and numerous reps will help the player learn the skills.
A philosophy of the Barton Academy is that everything starts with developing great feet.
Every player of every position will learn drills that are terrific in developing good feet for your
individual position.
We teach the importance of using your heart in being a competitor, in developing work ethic
and structure in your life. Intelligence is very important to players regardless of position.
Players must know and understand their position and the overall game on both sides of the
ball.
We demand a great effort from all players.
The older players must become role models for the young players. The younger players must
learn to listen well and earn the respect of the older players. All of this develops leadership and
a good self-esteem for each and every player that we train.
When all this comes together, everyone has fun; the coaches, players and parents. Taylor and
Greg Barton love what they do. They have put together an excellent coaching staff; all excellent
football teachers and all good people.
