Beavers make it five in a row vs. Huskies

Another home game, another home loss for the Huskies. Big plays from the other Rodgers brother, James, got the Beavers started and then Jacquizz took over in the second half as Oregon State pulled away from Washington to gain a 34-13 win at Husky Stadium sending a homecoming crowd of 63,996 home unhappy.

Oregon State WR James Rodgers had a huge game, scoring two touchdowns on running plays and one on a passing play and the defense came away with four turnovers, all interceptions, and generally held the Washington offense in check most of the game.

Mistakes were the key for Washington early.

After taking the opening kickoff, the offense received a delay of game penalty before their first play from scrimmage. Things didn’t improve either, as an acrobatic, 61-yard catch by WR D’Andre Goodwin was brought back by a holding penalty and Washington lost momentum and had to give the ball to the Beavers early in the first quarter.

When Oregon State stalled on their first drive, Washington went on an eight-play, 66 yard drive, finished when punter Jared Ballman hit from 45 yards out to give the Huskies a 3-0 lead.

That’s when the Rodgers Brothers Show started.

The sophomore WR from Texas, took a handoff from QB Lyle Moevao and headed right, avoiding a diving attempt by Husky LB Mason Foster and outraced CB Mesphin Forrester to the endzone for a 52-yard touchdown putting the Beavers on top for good late in the first quarter.

The Beavers added a 37-yard field goal by Justin Kahut early in the second quarter after a Ronnie Fouch interception and then Moevao hit Rodgers for a 33 yard touchdown as he beat Forrester to the inside.

To close the half, Washington added another Ballman field goal, this one coming from 44 yards out, to send the teams into the locker room with Oregon State leading 17-6.

The Beavers got the ball first in the second half and marched 65 yards in 10 plays as Jacquizz Rodgers capped the drive with a one yard touchdown run, effectively putting the game out of reach, however, James wasn’t finished.

The elder Rodgers brother added his third touchdown of the game, taking a pitch on an end-around and running away from S Nate Williams for a 55-yard touchdown.

Some good news for the Huskies came when RB Terrance Dailey, who had a solid night running the ball, took a handoff straight up the middle, following blocks by guards Ryan Tolar and Jordan White-Frisbee and C Juan Garcia and outraced the Beavers’ secondary for a 59-yard touchdown run.

James Rodgers finished the night with 216 yards of offense (110 rushing, 53 receiving and 53 returning) and three touchdowns, while Jacquizz had 94 yards on 20 carries and one touchdown.

Moevao enjoyed an efficient, if unspectacular evening, completing 18 of 21 passes for 191 yards and the one long touchdown to Rodgers.

For the Huskies, Dailey had 102 yards on 16 carries and a touchdown, while Fouch completed 17 of 32 passes for 276 yards, but he didn’t have any touchdown passes and he threw three interceptions.

Goodwin had a huge night for the Huskies, hauling in five passes for 136 yards and Devin Aguilar added five receptions for 73 yards.

Overall the Beavers totaled 421 yards of offense (191 passing, 230 rushing) while Washington managed to post 377 yards (276 passing, 101 rushing).

The win was Oregon State’s fifth straight over Washington and the fourth straight at Husky Stadium, the first time that has been done since the 1950s.

Washington (0-6) now prepares to host Notre Dame (4-2) who is coming off of a bye week.
