Locker suffers hamstring injury

Depending on your point of view, the news that Jake Locker suffered a left hamstring injury and will be day-to-day indefinitely could be seen as a doomsday scenario or a blessing in disguise. Locker and head coach Tyrone Willingham met with the media shortly after noon on Friday to fill the media and fans in on what is going on with Washington's redshirt sophomore quarterback.
"Obviously the center of attention will be Jake," Willingham said in his opening statement to the media. "He did sustain and injury, which was a hamstring strain. We'll be monitoring as we go and our thought process is to be very cautious and to just move forward day-to-day."
Locker, who sat next to his head coach with a heavily taped left hamstring, said it was just a normal running play and that he wasn't touched before it happened.
"I was running to the outside, I went to turn up and I couldn't do what I can normally do," Locker said. "It's just a little bit sore, but it's nothing too bad."
Locker and Willingham were about 25 minutes late to meet with the media because Locker was undergoing an MRI and they said the results could come down at any time.
Many will think the loss of Locker for any amount of time could be a huge blow to a Husky offense that desperately needs leadership and playmakers.
Last year, Locker accounted for 3,146 yards of offense and 27 touchdowns.
Stepping in for Locker will be redshirt freshman
Ronnie Fouch
who ran the first team offense for the remainder of practice on Thursday.
The "blessing in disguise" is that Fouch, who has put on several pounds of muscle, will now see reps with the first team while Locker heals and that can only benefit the offense in the long run.
"Ronnie did a good job of running the offense," Locker said. "We didn't lose anything there. He stepped in, took control of the huddle, those guys respect him and he did a good job so he'll keep the offense on track."
Locker will likely miss the next several days of practice, but he and Willingham both noted that he will still get plenty of "mental reps" as the team continues to prepare for
Oregon
on August 30th.
