Heard talks recruiting
Last year as a junior for the Warriors, Heard posted huge numbers – 2,300 yards and 30 touchdowns from his running back position and 66 tackles, two sacks and two forced fumbles as a middle linebacker.
With those outstanding stats, he's been attracting attention from schools up and down the west coast.
"Oregon has really been talking to me a lot," Heard said. "They want me to come down to their camp. I've talked to their coaches a little and they said they really like what I bring to the table as far as my speed and strength and my instincts.
"Boise State, Stanford, Illinois and Idaho are the other schools talking to me a lot right now."
In addition to that attention, Washington is Heard's first and only offer at this point and he made it down to a spring practice to check out the Dawgs.
"They looked pretty good I thought," Heard said. "They are young, but they got after it a lot. It was fun watching them and getting a feel for how the coaches run their practices.
"I only made it to one practice, but I talked to coach (Tyrone) Willingham and coach (Chris) Tormey. We just talked about what I'm up to, concentrating on school my last year and they both said they couldn't wait for me to be a Husky."
While the Ducks have already extended an offer to attend their camp, Heard also has invites to camps at Washington, California and UNLV.
"I really haven't decided which camps I'm going to go to," Heard said. "I've been really busy and I need to coordinate those camps with the things my team is planning on doing, so I need to sit down and sort of plan it out, but I think I'll hit a couple of them."
Heard said most schools are recruiting him as a linebacker, but the Ducks have told him they like him at either running back or linebacker.
