Bethel QB Oliver Henry talks recruiting

It's been stated over and over that the state of Washington is loaded with talented football prospects. Bethel (Spanaway, Wa.) QB Oliver Henry is one player who has registered on several recruiting radars and he's poised to finish off his Braves career with a flourish. He recently took a visit to Montlake and he spoke with Dawgman about recruiting and some tentative spring and summer plans.

"I had a lot of fun up there," Henry said about his unofficial visit for Washington's Junior Day on March 3rd. "I met with coach (Chris) Tormey and coach (Tim) Lappano.

"Coach Tormey is the one recruiting me and he just told me to keep U-Dub on my mind. I met with coach Lappano in the positional meetings and we talked about their offense and what the quarterback has to be responsible for."

Henry started the final four games of his sophomore season and then posted solid numbers as a junior completing 55% of his passes for 2,353 yards, 22 touchdowns and 18 interceptions. He was named first-team All-South Puget Sound League/South in 2006 for his efforts.

"I had a good year, but I plan to have a better year next year," Henry said. "I want to get bigger and stronger and work even better with my receivers."

It doesn't hurt that Henry throws to two outstanding wideouts in fellow seniors-to-be Ikaika Gleason and Robert Akeo-Orr.

"They're both really good and I feel comfortable with them," Henry noted.

As far as recruiting is concerned, besides Washington, Henry is hearing a lot from Washington State, Oregon, Oregon State, California, Arizona, Arizona State, Illinois, Alabama and Notre Dame.

Henry has also made some preliminary camp and combine plans as well.

"I'm not sure what camps I'm going to, but I think I want to hit the Notre Dame camp for a day or two," Henry said. "They sent me an invite and I think I'd like to check them out.

"I'm also going to go to the combine at the Seahawks training facility. I'm not sure about the name, but I think that's the one my coach and I talked about me attending."

Henry said he doesn't have a leader right now and that he's ready to be patient and see how things fall over the summer.

We'll have more from Henry as the evaluation period gets under way.
