Washington (10-2) has lost both of its road games this season, falling to Gonzaga 97-77 on Dec. 9. It certainly wasn't for the effort of Spencer Hawes, who scored 24 points for the Huskies and made his first 3-pointer of the season at the buzzer to send the game into double overtime, but the Huskies were outscored 13-6 in the second extra period.
Ryan Appleby, who had five 3-pointers in the first half to give the Huskies a 36-31 halftime lead, finished with 18 points. Justin Dentmon had nine points and three assists, but he led a quartet of Huskies that fouled out either at the very end of regulation or during the overtimes. Adrian Oliver, Jon Brockman and Quincy Pondexter all fouled out, making things very tough for the Huskies to keep up late. The Trojans took advantage of the Huskies' foul woes, outscoring UW 39-18 from the free-throw line for the night.
Nick Young scored five of his 25 points in the second overtime, Taj Gibson finished with 22 and 10 rebounds for the Trojans (11-3). Young shot 8-for-14 from the field and Gibson went 8-for-11 as the Trojans knocked off a ranked team for the second straight game. They beat then-No. 8 Wichita State in Las Vegas last Friday.
