Danielle Lawrie set a new Washington record for strikeouts in a regulation game with 19 but Arizona State got a run in the top of the seventh inning to hand the Huskies a 1-0 loss at Husky Softball Stadium on a sunny Friday afternoon.

With the win the seventh ranked Sun Devils improved to 6-4 in the Pac-10 and 42-7 overall while the Huskies dropped to 4-9 and 30-17.

With the 19 strikeouts Lawrie broke the previous record of 16 set by teammate Caitlin Noble in a six inning game against Willamette on February 19, 2005, and tied her own Husky mark for strikeouts in an extra inning game, which she set on Wednesday, April 26 against top ranked UCLA a 3-2, 12 inning win. Lawrie also moved into second place on the all-time Husky single season strikeout list with 288, passing Ashley Boek (283 in 2004) when she struck out Jessica Mapes swinging in the sixth inning. Only Jennifer Spediacci (316 in 2000) has more strikeouts in a single season.

Only two outs against Lawrie (18-11) came by contact, a soft liner back to the circle by Mapes to lead off the game and a line drive to left field by Jackie Vasquez in the third. Lawrie got into a jam in the sixth when she hit Heidi Knabe with a pitch and Vasquez beat out a sacrifice bunt for a hit, but she came back to strike out the side.

Arizona State got the only run of the game in the top of the seventh when Rhiannon Baca led off with a double to left and scored on a two out double by Kim Zadrozny. It looked like Lawrie might escape unscathed when she struck out Pac-10 home run leader Mindy Cowles looking and pinch hitter Jen McCard swinging, but Zadrozny lined a 2-1 changeup from Lawrie down the left field line to plate Baca.

Katie Burkhart (21-3) outdueled Lawrie, pitching the complete game shutout, allowing only one hit and two walks while striking out 15. She had a no hitter until Aimee Minor led off the bottom of the seventh with a ground single to left.

The Huskies finish their home season with two games against third ranked Arizona on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
