Nebraska is looking for some help at the tackle position. One thing is for sure though and that is…
Big-time JC OT gets Husky offer
Fenuki plays tackle and at 6-6, 330 pounds, he has the size and strength to man-handle bull-rushers (450 bench) as well as the quick feet and reach to keep the speed rushers at bay.
"Right after I graduated from high school, I took nine credits in the fall at American River College," Tupou said. "After that, I transferred to Sierra and now I'm ready to finish up and head to a four-year school."
And plenty of four-year schools are taking notice of the big man from northern California. Tupou claims eight offers: Nebraska, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, California, Oregon State, TCU and BYU.
"I'm hearing from all of the teams who've offered me and those are the ones I'm concentrating on," Tupou said matter-of-factly. "On November 19th I'm taking a visit to Oregon and then I want to set up at least a few more after that."
Washington tight ends and special teams coach Bob Simmons was recently in contact with Tupou and from the sounds of it, the call went well.
"He called me about two weeks ago," Tupou said. "It was the first time we had ever talked, but he seems like a real straight forward guy and I felt like we would get along really well.
"I've got to call them next week so I can set up a visit with them. We need to talk about the dates and what works best for my schedule."
While Tupou doesn't know anyone directly on the Washington squad, Manase Hopoi is from the same area and Tupou said his cousins played against Hopoi in high school.
So what is Tupou looking for in a school?
"Number one, the most important thing for me is the education," Tupou said, noting he hopes to major in law or business. "I want to go to a school with a quality education, because after I'm done playing I will need that to fall back on.
"I want to see how I get along with the players and the coaches as well. I like a players coach, but one that knows when to be serious too. I like coaches that can joke around with you, but when it's time to get down to business, he's all business."
Tupou gets down to business again this Saturday when he and his teammates face the College of the Siskiyous in Rocklin, California.
Tupou will graduate in December and wants to make a decision soon on where he will play next season.
