After two big commitments to the Washington football program in the past 48 hours, Husky fans are clamoring for more. Rancho Cordova (Calif.) Cordova RB James Montgomery was in town this last week on an unofficial visit and he called Dawgman.com to tell us about his visit and how close he is to making a decision.

“The visit was so tight,” Montgomery told Dawgman.com Saturday. “I got to meet so many different people. I got in around eight o’clock on Wednesday and then I had a meeting with coach (Tyrone) Willingham. That went really well.

“The next day I was really busy. I met with (former Husky running back) Greg Lewis. That was tight. We talked for a little bit and then I saw his Doak Walker trophy. That was really cool. Then I met with the Academic Services people. The lady who leads that is Gertrude Peoples. We talked with her and it was nice to see the academic side. Later that day, I met with (running backs) coach Trent Miles and we looked over some plays and how they want to use their running backs.”

In attendance on his visit was also his grandfather, who holds a lot of influence over Montgomery. “My grandfather really liked the visit a lot too,” said James. “He loves Washington.”

Montgomery said he and his grandfather both were impressed with the entire University of Washington experience, including a meeting with Athletic Director Todd Turner and seeing all of the facilities and the entire campus. “Even the weather was awesome when I was there,” Montgomery said, sounding almost relieved. “It was like 75 and sunny there. When we took off to come to Seattle it was 101 here. I like it cooler so that was pretty tight.”

The highlight that Montgomery couldn’t talk enough about was his meeting with some of the current players. “I met Dashon Goldson, Kenny James, Louis Rankin, Shelton Sampson and Joe Toledo – man he’s huge,” Montgomery said laughing. “They were all real cool. They seem to be a reflection of the coaches’ attitudes. They told me they are working hard. You know you’re going to work hard no matter what – I like that.

“The whole visit just went really well, I really liked it a lot. The coaches, the players, the area, the campus, everything was amazing.”

So how close is Montgomery to making a decision?

“I’m still going to take my visit to UCLA later this month,” Montgomery said. “I’m probably going there sometime around the 15th of July. I’ll make my decision soon after that.”
