Top 50 recruit Dejounte Murray announced and discussed his college decision with Scout.com. Where is…
Murray Elects To Stay Close
Crisp, who is physically a year younger than most seniors-to-be at this point but is set to graduate Rainier Beach now, has already decided that he will be attending Brewster Academy in New Hampshire this fall and reconnect with Murray and the Huskies next year.
Murray told Jason Scheer of WildcatAuthority.com, Scout.com's Arizona site, of Washington's pursuit. "I watch a lot of basketball from NBA to college to high school," he said. "There's a lot of pressure to go there. Everywhere I go, people tell me to go to UW. Even if I go to the movies or something, people tell me to go to UW. I want to go to a good program and a good academic school with a great coaching staff.
"Washington is my hometown school. I love it and a lot of hometown guys have gone through there. I want to go somewhere it will be a great fit for my family and I."
Murray is close to the 206/253 hoops fraternity, the area codes that spawned such great homegrown talent like Nate Robinson, Will Conroy, Brandon Roy, Isaiah Thomas, Spencer Hawes, and many more. It probably didn't hurt UW's chances that Murray recently won Thomas's ‘Zeke-End' Memorial Day Tournament with a team that included Conroy.
He's probably closest to the undisputed top ambassador of Seattle Basketball, and arguably of Seattle in general - Jamal Crawford. Even though Crawford attended Michigan, he's a Rainier Beach boy at heart.
"Jamal Crawford is like my big brother," Murray told Scheer. "We work out together every summer and that is somebody I really look up to. He is helping me with everything."
In the end, Murray stuck by the old cliche - there's no place like home.
We'll have more from Murray, including a scouting report - up in a bit.
