Named Freshman All-American

Oregon offensive lineman Tyler Johnstone was named to the 12th annual Football Writers Association of America All-America Team.

Tyler Johnstone started all 13 games at left tackle for the Ducks last season including the Fiesta Bowl game played last Thursday (Jan. 3, 2013) in Glendale, Ariz. Oregon won the contest, 35-17 and finished the season ranked second in the AP and Coaches' Poll released on Monday night following the BCS Championship game.

Johnstone was the blindside protector of All-Pac-12 quarterback Marcus Mariota and was a big part of the offensive line that cleared holes for the No. 3 rushing team in the country. Johnstone was also honored as a freshman All-American by Sporting News, CBSSports.com and FoxSportsNext.com.

In a media release from the University of Oregon issued on Monday, it was pointed out that Johnstone appeared in a motion picture starring Will Ferrell in 2011 entitled, Everything Must Go. The release also mentioned that Johnstone is the sixth Oregon player to be named to the FWAA All-America team and the fourth in the past four seasons.

The Freshman All-America Team is selected by an 11-person panel of writers. Both true freshmen and redshirt freshmen are considered for the team.
