Simmons: Quick Hitters

Elijah Shaw

Ohio State offered a couple 2014 prospects out of Georgia, one of the new Tennessee coaches stopped in to check on a top in-state target, and those are a couple of things we touch on here.

  • Ohio State offered at least two prospects out of Georgia on Monday. Elisha Shaw out of Tucker is a Scout100 defensive tackle and he picked up an offer from the Buckeyes. Tom Herman stopped by his school. Norcross defensive end Lorenzo Carter also added an offer from OSU. He is an early member of the 2014 Scout100. Shaw is a 6-foot-5, 295 pound interior DL and Carter is a 6-foot-5, 230 pound rush end.

  • Tennessee hired Butch Jones as their new head coach late last week and one coach he brought with him from Cincinnati is Mark Elder. Coach Elder was around Knoxville on Monday and one prospect he saw was 2014 standout Todd Kelly Jr. The Vols offered Kelly Jr. very early in the process as a safety. His father, Todd Kelly Sr. played for the Tennessee Volunteers. He played defensive end.

  • Washington is recruiting players in the south and they offered one from Auburn, Ala. on Monday. The Huskies became the 20th school to offer four-star outside linebacker Rashaan Evans on Monday morning. Evans is a 6-foot-3, 215 pound athlete that Alabama, Auburn, now Washington, and many others are in pursuit of.

  • Top 2013 cornerback Jalen Ramsey out of Brentwood (Tenn.) Brentwood Academy returned from Washington on Sunday night and two schools will see him on Monday. Mississippi State will see him Monday afternoon after an exam review, then Florida will be at the Ramsey home later this evening. Both the Bulldogs and Gators are still in the race for this Scout100 cornerback that is committed to USC.

  • Ellis Johnson is the new Defensive Coordinator at Auburn and he is in Georgia on Monday to visit Trey Johnson. The Peach State linebacker was originally the first 2013 Auburn commitment before decommitting shortly after Gene Chizik was let go. The Tigers are still in the mix and they will have to beat schools like Florida, Ohio State, and USC for the four-star linebacker.

  • Alabama has been showing a lot of interest in 2014 linebacker Petera Wilson and Mike Groh of the Crimson Tide stopped to check on the junior out of White Station, Tenn. He is claiming an early offer from UA.
