Brentwood Academy (Tenn.) defensive back Jalen Ramsey was in Southern California over the weekend taking an unofficial visit to watch USC host Notre Dame.

Jalen Ramsey is one of the nation’s elite defensive backs with a safety frame but cornerback skills. We caught up with the athlete Friday night when he was taking in the Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.)- Vista Murrieta playoff game to check out two of his future teammates.

“I set this visit in order to watch the USC- Notre Dame game Saturday,” Ramsey said. “When I heard Chris Hawkins and Su'a Cravens were playing each other, I scheduled my flight to get in earlier so I could come and check them out.”

Ramsey gave his impressions of both players following the game.

“Su’a, oh my gosh, he’s a man,” Ramsey said. “Su’a is the man, that’s all I can say. I had never seen him play before and honestly, he’s better than I thought. He has size, he’s physical, he made tackles all over the field, he blocked two punts and on offense, when he comes in, everyone knows it’s going to him and he still made plays.

“Chris hurt his ankle and didn’t play as much but I’ve seen Chris and I know he’s a good player. He had a great interception in the end zone that they ruled out of bounds but I think he was in so I’m counting it. He made some plays at receiver too and he’s just a very good all around athlete.”

Ramsey said he wanted to make the trip an unofficial visit so he can save his official visit for later in the year.

“All the committed guys are visiting in January so that’s when I want to visit as well,” Ramsey said. “That will be my last official visit, USC has the policy that they don’t mind you taking visits as long as they get the last one so that’s my plan.

“I’ve already been to Florida and liked it there a lot, I had a good time. Next weekend I’ll be going to Mississippi State, Washington will be (Dec. 7) and Alabama will be (Jan. 11). USC is set for (Jan. 18) and like I said, that will be it for me.”

Ramsey’s name is often talked about as being a player who USC could lose but he said his commitment is rock solid right now.

“I’m 100% committed to USC, that’s where I’m going,” Ramsey said. “I’m as solid as you can be, I’m just taking these visits to really be sure I’m doing the right thing but I feel very good about my commitment to USC and that’s where my heart is at right now, I have no doubts at all about it.”
