JC All-American Visits Buckeyes

East Mississippi Community College wide receiver Corey Smith was one of many unofficial visitors to Ohio State Saturday. Smith is in the process of setting up his official visits, and indicated a return to Columbus will occur in January.

Corey Smith returned to his home state Saturday, as the East Mississippi Community College wide receiver visited Ohio State for their victory over Michigan.

Smith, 6-foot-1, 190-pounds, played his high school football at Akron Buchtel before leaving Ohio and enrolling at Grand Rapids Community College in 2010. He spent this past year at EMCC and was named as a JUCO All-American.

"I had a good time at Ohio State and I feel good about where things are," Smith stated. "It was good seeing the big rivalry game, and the atmosphere reminded me of the Miami game a few years ago when Terrelle Pryor played. I watched the wide receivers a lot, to see their passing game up close."

"They need to run better routes, and be more consistent catching the football, but I think Devin Smith and Corey Brown are both good players," he added. "I want to play in an offense where I can contribute and play on a good team. The atmosphere was great, but that wasn't all that important to me, to be honest."

Individual meetings with both Urban Meyer and wide receivers coach Zach Smith impressed Smith, and increased the chances of him signing with Ohio State in February.

"Coach Meyer told me he needs playmakers badly and he wants me in their program," Smith explained. "I wanted to make sure my offer is good to go, and both Coach Meyer and Coach Smith assured me it is. I told them I will be back in January for my official visit, and that will either be the first or second week in January."

"I have a good relationship with Coach Smith, and he tried to recruit me to Marshall when I was in high school," he continued. "We speak on the phone at least once a week, sometimes twice a week, and he's a good guy and a coach that can help me get better."

Smith is planning on taking all five official visits, and at this time he knows of four that he will be taking.

"My official visit will be the most important thing for me, and I can see how I fit in with the other players," he stressed. "I already know guys at Ohio State, like Braxton (Miller), Doran (Grant), Devin (Smith), and a few other guys. I'm going to put a lot of importance on my official visits, when I can spend more time around these programs."

"I'm definitely going to Mississippi State at the end of this month, and I'm excited for that," he continued. "I also will be taking official visits to Hawaii and Tennessee. For my fifth visit, I'm not sure, but I'm considering Georgia, Texas A&M, and a few others."

Smith will be enrolling at the school of his choice in June of 2013, and will have three years to complete his final two seasons of eligibility.
