THERE'S A LESSON to be learned in Oregon State's first loss of the season. Many will point to…
HOOPS: Beavs win game, but lose Brandt
Brandt was unable to put any weight on the leg after he was helped off the court. Official word on what the injury was hadn't been released at press time but replays showed it looked to have all the hallmarks of a serious, season-ending type of knee injury.
The Beavs and Purdue played on after Brandt's injury and after Purdue tied it up, proceeded to settle the matter at hand with an 8-0 run to close out the Boilermakers in the consolation game of the 2K Sports Classic. Devon Collier led the way.
Collier, a 6-8 forward, set career highs with points (27) and rebounds (14). His two free throws halted Purdue's momentum to give OSU a 58-56 lead.
Eric Moreland was a non-factor in the scoring department until the end, when he connected on a picture-perfect trey to give OSU a 61-56 lead with just under a minute left.
Roberto Nelson added 10 points for the Beavers (3-1).
Oregon State built a 15-point lead in the second half before seeing it all slip away. But this time, unlike the loss to Alabama, Oregon State was able to overcome it.
Oregon State dominated the boards 47-36.
OSU is off until after Thanksgiving, next taking the court on Sunday, Nov 25 at home against Montana State.
