El Cerrito (Calif.) linebacker D.J. Calhoun (6-0, 195), got a chance to check out a UCLA home game at the Rose Bowl for the first time on Saturday.
By the time he left, the 2014 Scout 300 member got an offer from the Bruin coaches.
"Man, I was pretty excited," said Calhound. "I'm really excited still, I'm not even going to lie."
Calhoun had been talking with UCLA for a while, and Bruin coach Angus McClure stopped by to see an El Cerrito game last month before the Bruins played at Cal. But he wasn't expecting the offer this soon.
"I was pretty surprised," said Calhoun. "I knew they were really interested, but I wasn't expecting the offer. I love the coaches, the players, everything about them. I talked to Coach (Jeff) Ulbrich after the game and then I talked to the head coach, Jim Mora, and they really liked me."
Calhoun said the L.A. Nights uniforms that UCLA wore also caught his eye.
"Those uniforms were nice, real nice, with the blue," said Calhoun. "I loved watching them, they're bringing back their chemistry and I'd love to be a part of that."
Calhoun said the thought of committing even crossed his mind.
"I don't really know, I love the UCLA program and I thought about it, and I might even commit, but I'm also trying to wait on other offers too," said Calhoun.
Washington and Utah have offered Calhoun, and he's also getting a lot of interest from Alabama, Tennessee, Auburn and Florida State.
"I kind of want to stay around here and play, but I would take a chance to go out there," said Calhoun.
Calhoun said he planned to returned to the Rose Bowl in two weeks when the Bruins take on USC, and he's also hoping to see Oregon and Washington unofficially soon.
El Cerrito is 10-0 and faces Fremont (Calif.) Kennedy in the first round of the CIF-NCS playoffs this weekend.
