Trip Report - Darin Johnson

One of the top combo guards on Washington's recruiting radar is Sheldon (Sacramento, Ca.) G Darin Johnson. The 6'4" scorer was in town over the weekend and he spoke with Dawgman.com about his trip, his immediate plans and a timeline to make a decision...

"I had a really great visit," Johnson told Dawgman.com shortly after returning home on Sunday. "I got in on Friday morning and we went to Volleyball game.

"On Saturday, we all went paint-balling with the team. We had a lot of fun with that. Aziz N'diaye really got after it. Me and Drew (Gordon) were trying to get C.J. (Wilcox) and Andrew (Andrews), but the knew what they were doing so we didnt't get them."

One thing Johnson said he loved about the program during his time in Seattle was the bond the players have and he said that came out on the court when they worked out together.

"They all bond with each other and they really get after it on both ends of the floor. I really liked the way they ran and their style of play," Johnson noted.

The point-man in Johnson's recruitment has been Husky head coach Lorenzo Romar and he said the two are very close.

"We've established (the relationship) over the pats couple months. He's a great dude, he's straight up and I feel real comfortable talking to him about anything," Johnson said. "With the wings leaving from there, it's a great opportunity, but in the long run, I'm just looking for the bet fit."

As far as other schools of interest, Washington is in the mix with the likes of San Diego State, Oregon and Texas A&M, with the latter getting the final visit.

"I've narrowed it down to those four and I'm pretty happy for where things have gone," Johnson said. "I've already visited San Diego State and Oregon and then I have my visit to Texas A&M next weekend.

"After that, I'll make my decision because I plan to sign with a school in November."

The early signing period for baskeball is November 14th - November 21st.

We will have more from Johnson as he gets closer to making his decision and signing on the doted line.
