Wroten next Husky to be drafted

Tony Wroten was selected by the Memphis Grizzlies with the 25th pick in the 2012 NBA Draft at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey Thursday night. Wroten is the second Washington Husky to be picked, following Terrence Ross, who was taken eighth by the Toronto Raptors. He will join former UW standout Quincy Pondexter in Memphis.
Technically it's not the first time Washington has had two first round draft picks; signee Martell Webster from Seattle Prep went No. 6 to Portland and Nate Robinson, who is also Wroten's cousin, went to Phoenix with the 21st pick of the 2005 NBA Draft. But it is the first time in UW history that two current Huskies went in the first round.
Wroten came to Montlake from Garfield High School in Seattle, one of the most heralded prospects to ever play for the Huskies. Not only was he highly rated as a high school prospect, but he also played for his country as a member of the 2009-10 USA Basketball Men's Developmental National Team.
In his only year on campus, Wroten put together one of the great seasons in Husky history. The Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and 1st team all-Pac-12 pick was also an All-District IX Team and NABC District 20 2nd Team member. Wroten was the first ever UW freshman named as a first team all-conference pick. He joined
Kentucky
teammates
Anthony Davis
&
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist
- who were picked No. 1 and No. 2 in Thursday's NBA Draft - Indiana's
Cody Zeller
and Duke's
Austin Rivers
on the five man Wayman Tisdale Freshman of the Year list. Wroten was also a 2012 Bob Cousy Award Nominee.
Wroten averaged 16 points which led all Pac-12 freshmen in scoring, and he also led the league frosh in assists and steals. He also became UW's all-time freshman leader in points, steals & assists and was fourth in rebounds.
