The Oregon Ducks baseball team are on an eight game win streak and are 41-14 for the season and 19-9 in conference play. Last week the Ducks were 4-1 beating USC and Seattle three times, all at PK Park in Eugene.
This week the Ducks take on the University of Portland at Portland on Tuesday then on Wednesday the two teams switch locale and meet at PK Park. Friday marks a three game road stand against Oregon State at Goss Stadium in Corvallis for with Saturday and Sunday games scheduled in addition to Friday's contest.
Player of the Week
Sophomore Aaron Jones batted .429 last week as the Ducks finished with an undefeated record of 4-0. Jones drove in three runs of which two proved to stand as the game winners. In Saturday’s 5-4 victory over Seattle, it was Jones’ walk-off RBI single that ended the game in the ninth in favor of the Ducks. Jones also scored three runs, was walked twice and stole one base last week.
Pitcher of the Week
Senior Alex Keudell (10-3) won his ninth consecutive start on Friday night by shutting out Seattle and scattering five hits while striking out five in seven and 2/3 innings of work. After allowing two hits in the first inning, Keudell faced just three batters over the minimum until his exit in the top of the eighth. Keudell’s 10th win of the year set a new Oregon single-season record, and his 22 career wins are tied for first in the history books. In his last nine starts, Keudell is 9-0 with a 1.14 ERA allowing just nine runs in 71 and 1/3 innings.
Oregon Notes
Winners in 14 of their last 15 games, including eight in a row, the Ducks’ 41 wins are the most in program history heading into the final week of regular season play. Last week the Ducks took a weekend off from conference action, and recorded their second straight series sweep, winning three games against Seattle at PK Park. In the series, Aaron Jones led Oregon batting .444, while Kyle Garlick drove in a team-leading three runs. Senior Alex Keudell was once again stellar on the mound, tossing seven and 2/3 shutout innings in Friday night’s 6-1 victory. For Keudell, it was his 10th win of the year setting the new Oregon single-season record. Keudell has also won his last nine starts. In addition, freshman left-hander Tommy Thorpe appeared in all three games, tossing three and 2/3 shutout innings while striking out eight and recording a win and save. The Ducks enter the final weekend of play at the top of the Pac-12 standings, but four teams trail Oregon by two games or less: Arizona (1), Arizona State (2), Stanford (2) and UCLA (2).
