Arizona fell behind early and never recovered, as UCLA won 15-3 on Saturday night.
The first inning could not have gone much worse for Arizona. Beau Amaral reached first and then advanced to second on a passed ball. UCLA then scored not too long after, as Cody Keefer reached on a bunt and an error allowed the Bruins to get on the board.
A few batters later, Pat Valaika singled in another run followed by a Cody Regis single that scored two runs, leaving Arizona down 5-0 at the end of the top half of the first due to three errors.
Arizona tried to get something going in the second inning when Seth Mejias-Break singled and Bobby Brown followed with one of his own to put runners at the corners. However, the inning then stalled for the Wildcats and only Mejias-Break scored on a ground out by Trent Gilbert that made it 5-1.
Arizona held UCLA scoreless and Johnny Field led off the third with a single for Arizona. After advancing to second on an out by Alex Mejia, Filed scored on a double from Robert Refsnyder that made it 5-2 in favor of the Bruins.
In the fifth inning, Valaika singled and Regis followed with one of his own. Kevin Williams was then hit by a pitch and UCLA scored on a fielder’s choice the following batter.
Tyler Heineman followed with yet another single and an error brought home a second run, as the Bruins grabbed a 10-2 lead and busted the game wide open.
