Allen talks about visit to Montlake

A 2013 prospect who received a very early offer from the Huskies is Brophy College Prep (Phoenix, Az.) WR Devon Allen and this past weekend, while competing at in the Brooks PR Invitational at Dempsey, took a chance to visit with the Husky football coaches as well...

"I was up there for a the track meet and so I got a chance to visit with the coaches when we had a four-hour window for a break," Allen told Dawgman.com Monday afternoon. "I was actually born in Renton and lived up there for about eight years before we moved to Arizona and my dad's best friend is my godfather and during that window, he picked me up and took me over to meet with the coaches so I could go talk to the coaches.

"I got to spend a lot of time with coach (Jimmie) Dougherty who would be my position coach if I went there and coach Peter Sirmon who is the coach recruiting me for them.

"I had a really great time meeting with them and getting to know them a little better and we talked about how they would use me in their program. It was exciting."

Allen said the coaches showed him some film from the Alamo Bowl and the way they would use him.

"They definitely want me outside and to use me as a deep threat," Allen noted. "They like my speed and how I get separation."

Because of his outstanding speed (4.4), great routes and productivity and soft hands, Allen has posted big numbers his first two years of varsity football -- 44 passes for 844 yards and 14 touchdowns as a junior and 60 passes for 915 yards and 6 touchdowns as a sophomore -- and that has led to 15 schools, including Washington, offering the talented receiver.

"I got offers from UCLA, Nebraska and Arkansas last week," Allen said. "I had offers from Stanford, Oklahoma State, Oregon State, Colorado State, Purdue, Duke, Michigan, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Washington and then the two in-state schools Arizona and Arizona State.

"I'm planning to get back up to Washington, hopefully during spring ball if I can swing it, and I also want to get out to some of these schools that I'm really considering.

"I will probably take my visits and then decide sometime before Signing Day."

During the Brooks PR Invitational, Allen broke the Arizona state-record, posting a 7.8 second time in the 60-meter hurdles. However, the only issue was that two other runners had faster times.

"I did well, but I got third overall," Allen said. "I got a bronze medal for the event, but the guy who won it tied the national record, so it wasn't like I didn't do well, he just did really well. He ran a 7.57, so he was flying."

We will continue to keep tabs on Allen as he moves along in the recruiting process.
