Senio Kelemete Combine Blog - Day One
I feel pretty good; there's nothing lingering and there's nothing that's going to keep me from sitting out any drills. So there was no problem with any of the physicals or exams or x-rays. It was pretty exhausting though; there was a lot of just go here, go there, and as soon as you get there come straight back here.
I think there were about five or six guys there that I knew from the Senior Bowl. The Senior Bowl really helped today, especially with all the interviews. I felt pretty confident with the interviews and talking with scouts.
I got to the hospital around 11:30 and I didn't get done there until about 3:30 or 4. Then I got back to the hotel and had to do a Cybex workout thing. It tested leg strength, and I did fine. It was used to see if you have any past knee injuries or leg injuries, to see if it might bother you. It didn't bother me.
Right after that, I had about an hour to just relax and chill in my room until my next meeting. I have a roommate. He's an offensive lineman, his name is (Philip) Blake. He played for Baylor. I met him at the Senior Bowl, and we talked there. We don't talk about the Alamo Bowl, though.
I was able to take a power nap, and then after we had an orientation. It was just about the basics; what's going on, being on time, knowing where you're supposed to be. After that, I met with scouts and did interviews with them. Right there and then, you find out who wants to talk to you. I talked to a lot of teams, like the Ravens, Green Bay Packers, Seahawks…I can't remember all the teams.
We're not talking yet about what they want to see out of me; it's more of them just asking me all sorts of questions. They all seem to be the same kind of questions, like what I did in high school and who I think was the best coach in college. I think they are just trying to see if what you say to them is the truth. They can go back to someone at the University of Washington and ask them - hey, is he really this type of guy. Does he really do what he says he does? Those type of questions…just telling the truth and being up front with them.
Besides working out at 4th and Inches, they just let me know that these days were going to be long days. It's not like there's any questions they told me to prepare for, but it was more about what was going to go on and the schedule.
I feel like this is all business right now. I want to talk to as many teams as I can, so I can have more opportunities. The more teams that like me, the more likely I'll be able to go to a team. But just being here is mind-boggling to me. I never pictured myself being able to go to the Senior Bowl or coming here to the NFL Combine.
They are going to have us up bright and early; they'll have a phone call waiting for us. I didn't get back to my room until about 11:30, but this is what I've been waiting for. If I have to keep going until 2 with interviews, I don't mind that.
All I know tomorrow is that there's going to be more tests and stuff, more physical tests.
